On June 13, 2004Flint Center held a performance put on by three of China’s volunteers. My Dream was created by three volunteers, who wanted to give the chance for the world to see Chinese best. A group of 55 participants traveled from china to give us the opportunity to watch an amazing feet of hardship. Each member was either born or had something tragic happened to them that impaired them. Whether it may be their hearing, sight, immobility (loss of arms or loss of use for legs), deformity, or illness, all conquered their disability and achieved their dreams. This dance troupe was called the China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe. It was amazing to see the passion that thrived from their bodies when they were burdened with a disability. It was also amazing to see the people who helped make it possible for these dancers, singers, and music players the opportunities to do something others are able to do. At one point, they had the teachers on stage counting and keeping the beat for the dancers. I have never seen such beauty. The host was deaf and used sign language to tell us what was to be ahead along with a voice recording. The performance consist of a blind pianist, a man with osteomalacia who played the Chinese violin, deaf dancers, arm-less farmer, blind singers and music players, and a famous conductor who has down syndrome. This conductor was named Zhouzhou. He has conducted in many places and is now famous. It was amazing to see a man with an IQ of 30, be enveloped by music not being able to read a measure of music, yet be so intelligent to conduct an entire symphony. This show lasted 3 hours, yet it felt only to be an hour. I enjoyed seeing these extraordinary characters take the stage and shine like the bright stars they are. They have given me a deeper passion to not take anything for granted. This incredible sight made me realized even more, how blessed my life is and how God has given us the ability to do anything we put our mind to.
