The Yogurt model.
If I understand right, the Yogurt model idealizes communication within a certain group created for a certain purpose even after the purpose of this group doesn't exist anymore.
Life can be a long and complicated path for some people. High School is often a period very hard where we have to face many cruel behaviors such as friends choices, sexual behaviors, hobbies choices. Pick the wrong choice and your life won't be as smooth as if you would have picked something else. Does it mean that you are a looser, a bad person, the black sheep? Not necessary. So, now what would be the reason for you to keep such relations after High School is over?
Another point would be that as we move on, we fill our life with memories. If you would move on many times, let's say every year you would change school, town and even country. Now, imagine how many memories you would add to another but since you know that you only have one year in your new environment, how would you spend this time? Would you email, call, write all your ex-friends instead of spending more quality time with your current friends? How would you feel if your current partner would spend time hang-out with his/her ex-partner?
The yogurt model might be a good thing in some situations but as your life get more complicated, more active, more intense, you might find out that to live in the present is a more efficient way than to live in the past.
But the day you realize that you meet the person or the group you want to "yogurt" with, then maybe it's about time to unpack your suitcase for good.
