Library Browsing
Aah, it was refreshing to visit a library. I haven't been to one in far too long.
While Mr. Lovas was taking us through the library and showing us different resources we could use for our research papers, I found several books I was interested in reading and learned about the existence of several research papers just by looking at the back cover of some books.
I used to do this when I was younger and my favorite books and authors came from random findings of books I was interested in.
I really enjoy reading but I haven't had much time for it in a while. It makes me sad because I think that it's very important to be well read. I usually catch up on my reading the summer.
Just now, as I was writing about my love for reading, I remembered how I used to hate it when I was younger. During the fourth grade, our class would go to the school library and we had to pick out a book and read it. We would do this throughout the year several times. I was a television child though and I REALLY did not like reading. I would always check out children's books (seriously). You know, the ones with the pictures and a few lines on each page. I mean, I actually did the assignment and read them (and quite enjoyed them) but that's pretty bad.
When my family moved to the United States in fifth grade, my parents began forcing me to read so that I would learn English. I think I read every single one of the Babysitters Club Mystery books. I wasn't allowed to read Goosebumps, even though I liked those books, because my parents felt that those books were trash (which they are). Feeding on this new power of theirs to force me to read, they began making me read classics that they read growing up. That's how my love for reading came to be.
