Talentedly Original......

So remember these two things: you are talented and you are original. Be sure of that. I say this because trust is one of the very most important things in writing... This creative power and imagination is in everyone and so is the need to express it, i.e., to share it with others. Brenda Ueland, If You Want to Write, ©1938, Graywolf Press, 1987 I chose this quote because I believe that in order to be a good writer you have to trust yourself.  You have to trust that you have something to say that will be of interest to someone else.  You need to have faith in your opinion and in your ability to express it.  I believe we are all original just based on the fact that we are all different.  We have different experiences and beliefs.  We need to trust that our experiences and beliefs are just as valuable as anyone else's.      Posted by Nicole Haralambidis on 2/25/04; 9:46:09 PM from the dept. Rhythm and Poetry

William Stafford, Writing the Australian Crawl, The University of Michigan Press, 1978 Poetry allows us to see certain events and situations in a different light.  The structure and rhythm of the words can illuminate an issue in a way we have never thought of before.  I love poetry that allows my mind and imagination to wander free.  I like being able to open myself up to the possibility of another world and believing that it is possible, if only for a brief moment.  Posted by Nicole Haralambidis on 2/25/04; 9:36:45 PM from the dept.
