"Marriage between brother and sister, or brother and brother? That’s pretty damn disturbing if you think about it, but then again, so was homosexuality not too long ago. " Mark Ooi
Mark has a point. I am not against gays or gay rights because i dont think they affect others like you and me. But as Mark points out, if we accept or condone such acts, what is next? There must be a line drawn at some point, and i believe that gay marriages should be taken seriously, and if allowed, there must be strict guidelines and rules to forbid anymore degrading of moral values.
First few things that come to mind when i think about gay marriages is what is the next step in a marriage. A child. So a gay couple may adopt, a lesbian couple may choose to impregnate themselves. But when they start having a child, that truly starts affecting and hurting other people. Who gave them the write to bring a child up in such a different and queer environment. I believe in their cause to fight for their own beliefs or rights, but when it comes to innocent babies or children adopted into such a family without a choice makes it wrong.
Young children are innocent and naive, thus, they need the protection of adults. If they have been abandoned or some tragedy has befallen on their parents, it is society's responsibility to make sure they are well taken care of as much as possible. Moral or ethical standards are shaped by us, and like it or not, these standards change and evolve over time. But there we should be able to agree that there is a fundamental wrong or right. In most cases it is a grey area, but in this case it seems clearer to me. We have to accept that the majority's consensus or actions should dominate how a society functions, and until the society moves on and changes, we should adhere to these principles.
